About Senator Clements

Senator Rob Clements was appointed to the Nebraska Unicameral in February 2017 by Gov. Pete Ricketts and reelected in 2018 & 2022. He was chosen by his colleagues to serve on the Legislature’s powerful Appropriations Committee, and then elected chairman of the committee in 2023. As chairman of the Appropriations Committee, he has been instrumental in guiding the state through a difficult budget crunch, protecting the property tax credit relief fund, funding education, and balancing the budget without raising taxes.

When most Nebraskans are trimming their budgets, Senator Rob Clements believes the state should do likewise. Clements is a strong advocate for controlling government spending and reducing the tax burden on Nebraska families. He understands that property taxes are out of control, especially for Ag producers. That’s why he worked to protect the Property Tax Credit Relief Fund and voted for property tax reform. Clements also supports lower income taxes, reduced regulations, more education opportunities, and protecting Nebraska families and the unborn.

Clements holds a 1973 B.S. degree in Mathematics with honors from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with minors in Economics and Actuarial Science. After graduation, he worked as an actuary at Business Men’s Assurance Co. before returning to Elmwood in 1979 to work at the American Exchange Bank, where he is now the Executive Vice President.

Clements is a member of the Society of Actuaries, President of the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation, Adjutant of the Sons of the American Legion, Alumni of the Cornhusker Marching Band, former chairman of the Cass County Republican Party, and is a church musician and board member.

Clements and his wife Peggy were high school sweethearts and have been married for 50 years. Rob and Peggy have five grown children, Andy, Tom, Mary, Sarah, and Debbie, and 13 grandchildren.
